EPISODE VIII

AGE OF DARKNESS

**SPOILERS**

After several years, the political struggles between the Republic and the Kryptal Empire have nearly come to an end. No proof could be found that the Kryptals had created the viral bio-weapon that had ravaged Coruscant’s capital. The science lab found on Treecia that had been experimenting with a supposed strain of the virus denied all claims, stating that the unidentified substance in their laboratory was actually the cure for a known disease and not a weapon. The Jedi had saved one sample of this “medicine” from Treecia in hopes of comparing it with the horrid Coruscant virus; however, not a single trace of the virus could be found leftover anywhere on the planet. King Sharr’s stated reason for bringing military troops to Treecia was to protect their science investments from the Jedi.

With no substantial evidence against the Kryptal kingdom, the Jedi have no choice but to close the case, resend all legal allegations, and allow the laboratories to be opened back up under Kryptal and Republic funding.  Only days before the court trials and Senate conferences are to conclude, Luke Skywalker’s young apprentice Kyp is taking the grueling Jedi trials when he makes a discovery. Deep beneath Coruscant’s surface in an icy cave, the young Jedi-to-be finds an animal frozen in a block of ice. When the animal is thawed, it is identified as having a live strain of the dreaded virus in its blood stream. A sample of the disease is drawn from the blood and taken to one of the Jedi labs as the remains of the creature are destroyed.

Late at night, in a quiet laboratory near the Jedi Temple, Taweigh the Treecian scientist and the Solo children, along with a few other Jedi, determine the virus to be a match with the “medicine” that was grown by the Kryptal scientists on Treecia years ago.  Before the Jedi council can be alerted, a mysterious outsider breaks into the labs and attacks the few Jedi in an attempt to steal the virus samples. He wields a double-bladed lightsaber and easily defeats the Jedi without having to kill them. Despite their greatest efforts, the shadowy figure escapes into the night with the vile.

Han and Leia lead a team to follow the tracks of this enigmatic prowler, hoping to reclaim their only proof of King Sharr’s super-weapon. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker leads his own unit across the galaxy once again in search of the stolen “Journal of the Whills.”

As many events transpire on the Jedi’s separate quests, Han and Leia pursue the mysterious Sith back to Kryptal, where he reports to Crystal Vanai that he has obtained the Jedi’s only virus sample. The Jedi begin their plan to expose the Kryptals. As they plot, keeping in contact with headquarters, they pose as diplomats trying to maintain peace and persuade the Kryptal Kingdom to re-join the Republic.

Meanwhile, Luke is finally led to Nar Shaddaa where he discovers the truth about the Kryptal Project and Darth Plagueis’ ultimate secret weapon. The deadly virus had only been a diversion allowing the Sith to steal the “Journal” and focus the Jedi’s attention away from the true weapon. On this dark and desolate planet, the ancient Sith Master Plagueis is using the combined forces of the “Journal of the Whills” and the “Charge of Darkness” to resurrect a massive army of long dead Sith warriors. Over the past thirty-five years, since the death of Darth Sidious, Lord Plagueis has generated a small clan of his own Sith padawans, such as Crystal Vanai. He has abolished the rule enforced by Darth Bane that only two Sith shall exist at a time. Now, he is conceiving an army of epic proportions the likes of which has not been seen for thousands of years, one to surpass even the Jedi Order; he is amassing an army of the dead. These Sith soldiers already number in the hundreds and grow by the day, wielding even greater power than in their first life. The remains of the Sith lords – cadavers, blood or hair samples, anything belonging to the body – are harvested from across the galaxy and gathered into the primeval Sith temples for rebirthing.

Four of our other heroes who have been searching the galaxy for the “Journal” are caught as spies on the treacherous salt mines of Kessel. Jaina and Anakin Solo, Taweigh, and Chewbacca are imprisoned in the deepest dungeons of this god-forsaken wasteland and forced to do slave labor as they wait to be executed. Now that Kessel is a part of the Kryptal Empire, King Sharr (Darth Plagueis) is informed of the Jedi spies from the Republic. War is immediately declared and the remaining Jedi on the planet Kryptal, who were posing as ambassadors, must struggle to escape the planet alive as they are hunted like fugitives.

Plagueis begins transporting his Sith army, which numbers over three hundred, to Kryptal to formulate an attack plan against the Republic and the Jedi Knights. Luke and his team stow aboard the enemy ships, afraid they would be caught if they followed in their own. Han and Leia receive word of the Sith soldiers and call in reinforcements to Kryptal, preparing to attack the Sith army when they first arrive and are unprepared. Aboard the enemy ships, the Jedi search frantically for the Journal of the Whills. When the Journal is found however, the Jedi are discovered by some of the most historically-renowned Sith Lords, Darth Bane and Exxar Kun, and taken prisoner.

Back on Kessel, the young Jedi and their sidekicks have found themselves working in a massive weapons factory with the most advanced artillery and space craft ever seen. They also discover a chamber holding the fabled Kyber crystal of legend. They overhear of plans to supply King Sharr’s secret army with these weapons on the planet Kryptal. Our heroes narrowly escape execution with help from several other slaves. Beginning a revolt, they manage to free the slaves, who agree to return the favor by joining the Jedi in their war against King Sharr’s forces. After overthrowing Kessel’s evil slave-masters, the band of Jedi and liberated slaves board the ships and steal the weapons and the Kyber crystal. Heading for the planet Kryptal, they hope to either negotiate or attack if they must; stopping King Sharr’s army at any cost before it assembles for war. What they don’t know, is that a band of fugitive Jedi are already on Kryptal awaiting both Plagueis’ forces and Jedi reinforcements from Coruscant.

When the Jedi attack force lands on Kryptal, they hide in wait for the Sith army. Supposedly, neither Vanai nor Plagueis are aware of the Jedi presence when they land on the planet. The Jedi come out of hiding and ambush the seemingly surprised Sith troops as they emerge from their ships. During the struggle, Luke and the other Jedi prisoners break free and join the battle. As the fierce battle rages, the Jedi seem to have the upper-hand against the unprepared, smaller enemy force. Without warning, from over the hills, up from the crevices of the planet’s surface, out of caves, and across the plains; thousands of Sith warriors pour into the battle, slaughtering the shocked Jedi Knights. Instantly, the tide turns in favor of the dark lords. Luke encounters the evil Crystal Vanai in battle, who tells him that this was a trap. The Sith army found on Nar Shaddaa was just a new batch to add to the masses on Kryptal. The warrior who had robbed the lab back on Coruscant was intended to lead the Jedi straight to Kryptal. During the epic battle, Jacen and Jaina arrive with their forces and new equipment, only to meet a blockade in the planet’s atmosphere. On the surface and in the skies, the Jedi are easily defeated and have no choice but to make an effort to retreat. As Leia meets Vanai in battle, she is ruthlessly killed and dies in the arms of her husband. Han realizes that not only is the Jedi army being exterminated, but his children, too,  are in imminent danger as they fight a losing battle against the Sith army’s blockade. He knows that the only way to save his children and give the Jedi a chance of escape, is to detonate a rarely used magnetic bomb in Kryptal’s atmosphere that will destroy all electronic functioning and bring the blockade of enemy ships crashing down on the planet’s surface, right in the midst of the battle. He alerts the fleets fighting the blockade to retreat, along with the Jedi still struggling down on the battlefields. He boards the Millennium Falcon, knowing he must sacrifice his own life to accomplish this heroic feat, and speeds into the dogfight. He sets the bomb on board his own ship and flies straight into one of the enemy craft’s deflector shields. The entire fleet of Sith space-craft hovering in the skies lose power and begin plummeting toward the battlefields below. Even the lightsabers and other weapons down on the surface cease functioning. When the Sith realize what is happening, they take the Jedi’s lead and begin to scatter as well. The remaining Jedi desperately escape the planet as hundreds of Sith are wiped out in a rain of space-craft, exploding as they hit the ground.

Back on Coruscant, a defeated band of Jedi mourn the loss of countless valiant warriors and contemplate how they will combat this new terror. They know they have little time and few choices as Darth Plagueis now has both ancient texts, the “Journal” and the “Charge,” and even the Kyber crystal at his side. Such imminent danger has not loomed over the galaxy since the reign of the knights of the Old Republic and the ancient wars against the Sith. Victory for the enemy seems at hand as the Kryptal Empire spreads, wielding its new resurrected army of ancient unstoppable Sith Warriors.

Han, Leia, Chewbacca, Lando, Kyp, and countless other heroes have fallen in battle. The faith of the Jedi falters and all hope is veiled by a shroud of darkness and sorrow.
